Cut Carbon FootprintClimate Change
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the main greenhouse gases which cause climate change. Over 40% of the UK's man-made CO2 emissions come from energy we use every day, at home and when we travel. By reducing our personal CO2 emissions, we can all play an important part in the fight against climate change and save money on our energy bills too.
Under the Kyoto Protocol, by 2008-2012 the UK must reduce its emissions of six major greenhouse gases by 12.5 per cent from a baseline target set in 1990. Furthermore, the draft Climate Change Bill commits the UK to reductions in CO2 emissions of at least 26% by 2020 and a long term goal of an 80% reduction by 2050 has been set by the Government. The Government has decided one of the best ways to help meet these targets is to incentivise the consumer to be more energy efficient. SOLAR PVSolar electricity is green, renewable and energy doesn't release any harmful carbon dioxide or other pollutants. A typical home PV system could save around 1200 kg of carbon dioxide per year - that's around 30 tons over its lifetime. |
