How it works

Solar Hot Water Systems use solar radiation and not direct sunlight and work alongside your conventional water heater (boiler). The technology is well developed with a large choice of equipment tailored for your home to ensure maximum efficiency.

For domestic hot water there are three main components:

1. Solar Collector:

This is a panel of evacuated tubes that has a specially designed coating which allows the tubes to absorb all of the available radiation from the sun. Even on a cloudy day the tubes can heat your hot water.

2. A Heat Transfer System:

The fluid in the collector is heated by the sun's radiation, and pumped through a coil in the hot water cylinder, thus providing you with hot water.

3. Hot Water Cylinder:

This is a highly insulated tank specially designed to retain hot water for as long possible. This means that you can make the most of all the free hot water that your Solar Hot Water System provides.

Myth

A main concern is whether or not Britain is sunny enough. Our collectors do not need direct sunlight as they work on natural dayligh. In winter the hot water is pre-heated by the Solar Panel the boiler therefore has much less work to do.
